PRP (PLATELET RICH PLASMA) WESTON

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections help enhance collagen production in areas like the face, neck, arms, and hands, in areas where aging has created a natural slowdown in collagen production. Slower collagen production makes it harder for skin to repair itself, and as we age, that results in fine lines and wrinkles. PRP can turn back the clock and restore your skin to its smooth, more youthful appearance.

PRP uses your own blood through a revolutionary advanced technology process. The injections provide bioactive proteins, including stem cells and growth factors that can initiate then increase collagen repair and regeneration.

WHAT CAN PRP TREAT?

  • Lines between eyebrows.
  • Forehead lines.
  • Crow’s feet.
  • Laugh/smile lines.
  • Vertical lip lines.
  • Vertical lines on the chin.

PRP is also used to treat hair loss. Combined with medical skin needling, PRP uses your body’s plasma to stimulate hair follicles and encourage hair growth.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING TREATMENT?

Your med spa technician will draw a small amount of blood into a syringe, like when you draw blood for a regular blood test. Your blood is then processed by a special centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from your other blood components. Your technician will then use that PRP to inject strategically into the treatment areas. Because platelets are part of the clotting process, they cause a mild

inflammation when injected that triggers the healing process. The platelets go to work releasing enzymes and growth factors that attract stem cells, which then repair the damaged area by building new collagen. As that collagen matures, it shrinks and causes tightening and strengthening to that area of skin.

The treatment takes about 45 minutes to one hour. For some, one treatment will be enough, but others need two to three treatments for optimal results. In advance of your treatment, numbing cream is applied to eliminate discomfort.

WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF PRP TREATMENTS?

PRP treatments use your own body’s natural healing processes, with your own blood and your own plasma. There’s nothing artificial, nothing has been modified, and it’s completely safe. Using your body’s natural healing is the best way to rejuvenate your skin.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

We recommend three PRP treatments, each six weeks apart, for optimal results. You’ll notice improved skin tone and texture within three weeks. We also recommend annual follow-up treatments to maintain your desired appearance.

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE FOR MY TREATMENTS?

At your consultation appointment, our cosmetic physician will obtain a detailed clinical history and discuss any other medical conditions that may affect PRP treatments.

Avoid any anti-inflammatory medications (aspirin, Aleve, ibuprofen, Motrin, or prescription anti-inflammatory drugs). If you are currently taking low-dose aspirin for a medical issue, obtain clearance from your prescribing doctor before stopping that medication. You’ll need to be off anti-inflammatory medications for ten days before and 14 days after your PRP injection treatments.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Continue to avoid anti-inflammatory medications for 14 days.

You may experience a moderate to severe amount of pain for two to three days. This will subside, but it’s important not to take any anti-inflammatory pain medication during this timeframe. Also, do not ice the area. PRP injections work by creating an inflammatory response, so avoid any treatments that reduce inflammation.

Although you can return to work and other everyday activities after treatment, prepare for some redness, swelling, and/or bruising. This can last up to a week and is caused by cells activating as a result of the injected platelets. You can cover these areas with cosmetics, since makeup can be applied immediately after PRP treatments.

Use a sunscreen following treatments to protect your skin from sun damage.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

This varies by the individual. Most people notice an improvement in the weeks following the first session. You’ll continue to see improvement for eight months as collagen and keratin build up and repair your skin. Results usually last two years or longer.

ARE PRP TREATMENTS SAFE?

Because PRP uses your blood and your body’s own natural processes to rejuvenate your skin, there is no risk of allergic reaction. PRP is FDA approved. Clinical research shows that PRP injections are extremely safe and that there is minimal risk for any adverse reactions or complications. There’s no risk of rejection or disease transmission, since PRP uses your own blood. Recent research also suggests that PRP treatments may contain antibacterial properties that protect against infection.
